INNOVATION:

Our pioneering Identity-Release® Program allows children conceived by donor insemination to learn their donor's identity when they reach age 18. It is the oldest and most thoroughly developed open-identity program in existence, one that emphasizes proactive planning, support services, and accountability. While an increasing number of sperm banks are following TSBC's lead and instituting open-identity programs, TSBC is the only bank to conduct research on family building through donor insemination and to develop a protocol designed to make the identity-release process as positive a life experience as possible for everyone involved.

EMPOWERMENT:

Our roots are in the feminist women's health movement and our philosophy is that recipients should feel empowered to take control of their insemination process. We require that recipients be working with a medical professional, as we do not provide any medical care to recipients ourselves. However, we ship directly to women's homes and provide information on how to inseminate at home. Staff healthworkers, who are trained in fertility awareness and conception strategies, can advise you in predicting ovulation so that you can most effectively time your insemination attempts.

INFORMATION SHARING:

As a small bank, we’re able to provide individualized customer service, which includes free information sharing. We are happy to direct you to resources related to fertility, donor insemination, and family building. We can provide staff impressions of the donors to assist you in making your selection, and can let you know the post-thaw sperm count and motility of every vial you purchase. DIVERSITY:

We are committed to supporting family diversity, and our mission has always been to serve those individuals who have historically been underserved or shut out by the sperm banking industry—single women and lesbians. Two-thirds of the children born through TSBC are being raised by lesbian parents and nearly twenty percent by single parents.

HIGH STANDARDS:

We take pride in combining an open approach to donor insemination with a commitment to the highest standards of clinical screening, quality control, documentation, and confidentiality. TSBC is registered as a reproductive tissue bank with the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration), and our comprehensive screening of donors is performed in full compliance with the FDA's regulatory requirements. We hold Tissue Bank and Clinical Lab licenses in California, Maryland, and New York.

SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES:

TSBC recipients agree to report each and every pregnancy, birth, miscarriage, or other outcome. Your prompt reporting ensures that we maintain a limit of ten families per donor, supports the integrity of our Identity-Release® Program, and grants you access to a variety of family services, including our Family Contact List.
